Horsin' Around 4H Youth Horse Club:

Location: Western Monmouth County located in New Jersey

Standard 4H Club: Grades 4 through 13 (first year of College)

Club meets every second Saturday of the month at Free Spirit Farm, located in Freehold, N.J. from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Club "Board Members" run a business meeting, take attendance, report all club expenses & income. There is also an open discussion time allowance among club members.

After the opening meeting Members are taught All About Horses utilizing a hands-on approach. An agenda is set for the year that includes the nature of the horse, safety while handling, how to lead, tie and the importance of good grooming. Members also learn how to tack up a horse, the parts of the saddle and bridle, as well as, the parts of the horse, how to feed and care for a horse, etc. The list just goes on and on . . . . . . .

The last 45 minutes of the club meeting is dedicated to plain ole farm fun!!!! Members will learn and play various farm fun games and/or do crafts.

You do not have to own a horse to be a member of the club. 4H offers 4 qualifying horse shows each year for those who do own their own horse and/or are half leasing a horse. Qualifying members are then able to particiapte in the 4H State Show which is held each August at the Horse Park of New Jersey.
